MANILA -- Two police officers assigned at the Eastern Police District (EPD) are among the top 20 passers of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) promotional exam that was administered by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) last year.

PO1 Daniel Pinca garnered seventh place with a rating of 83.40 percent while PO2 Ranvier Marco Mercado bagged 17th place with a rating of 81.20 percent.

Pinca, 33, serves as a beat patroller at the EPD District Mobile Force Battalion. He is a member of Dalisay-Alab Class 2017 that trained at the National Capital Region Police Office. The native of Gen. Nakar, Quezon has a bachelor’s degree in commerce.

Meanwhile, Mercado, 32, is from Tacloban, Leyte and a Nursing graduate of Centro Escolar University. Despite passing the Nursing board exam, Mercado decided to join the PNP.

In a statement issued Friday, EPD director, Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba, lauded the achievement of the two police officers.

“I congratulate PO2 Mercado and PO1 Pinca who have proven that we have brilliant and excellent police officers who are at par with the other police officers in other regions. They will become a source of inspiration to their fellow officers who want to aim for professional growth as well,” Balba said.

He added that these two police officers have proven that EPD personnel are not just professional and disciplined in the line of duty but also excellent in terms of paper and pencil test.

Based on the results released Wednesday, only 4,410 examinees (34.99 percent) of the 12,602 examinees successfully passed the promotional exams.

Out of the total number of passers, 1,826 passed the Police Officer Exam while 2,189 hurdled the Senior Police Officer Exam.

Meanwhile, the number of passers for the Inspector and Superintendent Exam are 312 and 83, respectively.

The Napolcom also announced that a total of 3,742 or 11.37 percent out of the 32,912 examinees passed the PNP Entrance Exam.

Out of the 32,912 civilian examinees who took the exam, only 3,742 examinees (11.37 percent) passed.

The PNP Entrance Exam is a requirement for initial appointment to the rank of PO1.

The exams were conducted in designated schools in Metro Manila and other testing centers nationwide on October 21 last year. (PNA)
