CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- The Police Regional Office 3 (Central Luzon) has commended deserving police officers in the region for their good performance during the first day of the implementation of the election gun ban.
Chief Supt. Joel Coronel, PRO-3 director, awarded the Medalya ng Kagalingan to the deserving police officers during Monday’s flag raising ceremony here.
The awardees were Supt. Orlando Castil Jr., acting chief of police of San Jose del Monte and PO1 Jeremiah David B. Bangayan, both of Bulacan; Senior Supt. Leon Victor Rosete, Nueva Ecija police acting provincial director; Chief Insp. Arnel Aguilar, officer-in-charge of the San Antonio police; and SPO2 Alberto L. Interia, also from Nueva Ecija.
The police officers' effective implementation of the gun ban resulted in the arrest of four persons during checkpoint operations while two suspects were killed in a shootout.
Five firearms were likewise confiscated from violators during the first day of the gun ban’s implementation.
“We are quick in giving rewards to deserving personnel and acknowledge their notable deeds, but we are also swift and decisive in punishing the misfits and the undisciplined,” Coronel said.
He urged the public to cooperate with authorities at checkpoints and reiterated his assurance that police personnel will observe policies and procedures, and will uphold their basic rights.
During checkpoint, motorists are advised to slow down, dim their headlights, turn on their cabin lights, and answer promptly if asked by police authorities.
“I have also reminded our personnel to be courteous to motorists and to adhere to general guidelines prescribed in our Revised Police Operational Procedures,” Coronel said.
Carrying of firearms, other deadly weapons and explosives, as well as its transportation, is strictly prohibited from the start of the election period on January 13 until June 12.
Stricter penalties ranging from one year to 12 years of imprisonment will be meted to all violators. (PNA)
