Cebu’s Peñalosa to fight Mexican boxer for WBO Oriental title

Cebu boxer Dave Peñalosa will fight Mexican boxer Marcos Cardenas on February 16 in Pasay City. 

DAVAO CITY -- Undefeated Dave “The Hunter” Peñalosa of Cebu will battle Marcos “Geraldito” Cardenas of Mexico for the vacant World Boxing Organisation Oriental featherweight title at the Midas Hotel and Casino in Pasay City on February 16.

The 27-year-old Peñalosa has 14 straight wins with 10 knockouts to his record. He knocked out Twalib Tuwa of Tanzania in the second round at SM City North EDSA Skydome in Quezon City on September 30 last year.

Cardenas, on the other hand, has 19 wins with 15 knockouts but has six losses and one draw. Cardenas, 28, knocked out Gael Ibarra in the fifth round on November 30, 2018. He also TKO’d Jorge Isidro Lares in the fifth round on January 19.

Meanwhile, bantamweight John Riel Casimero (25-4-0) of the Philippines will clash with Kenya Yamashita (13-4-0) of Japan in the main supporting bout.

Also seeing action is Carl Jammes Martin (11-0) against Petchchorhae Kokietgym (17-2).

The fight on February 16 is promoted by Gerry Peñalosa of the Gerrypens Promotions with Art Monis as the matchmaker. (PNA)
