MANILA -- The Eastern Police District (EPD) has intensified security and is on full alert status on Monday to ensure the peaceful 33rd commemoration of the EDSA People Power revolt.

EPD Director, Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba, said some 1,000 police personnel will be deployed to the vicinity of the People Power Monument and the EDSA Shrine, where rallies are expected.

“We are on full alert status, all applied leave of PNP (Philippine National Police) personnel are cancelled to ensure (that) all PNP personnel are present. Thus, the district headquarters red team will be conducting surprise inspections in PADs (police assistance desks) and all posts, where policemen are on duty to make sure (there is a) 100 percent attendance of the more or less 1,100 deployed and reserve personnel,“ Balba said.

He said the civil disturbance management contingent has been in place since dawn of February 23. He also urged the public to report suspicious activities.

Police are coordinating with local government units and private establishments in the eastern part of Metro Manila for the event, Balba said.

Flyers on safety tips will be distributed in places of convergence. (PNA)
