Former Bukidnon guv Fortich laid to rest

MALAYBALAY CITY – The remains of long time Bukidnon Gov. Carlos “Totoy” O. Fortich was buried at Shepherds Meadow Memorial Park in Barangay Sumpong of this city on Wednesday afternoon.

The burial followed the mass held at the Monastery of the Transfiguration in Barangay San Jose here. Aside from family members and relatives, among those present were friends, supporters, government employees, and several politicians.

Carla Fortich said her father died last Feb. 24 at Capitol University Medical Center (CUMC) in Cagayan de Oro City due to old age. He was 83.

The remains of the former governor arrived at their residence in Malaybalay on March 1.

Fortich first became the governor of Bukidnon in 1968. He was elected to the post a record six times.

During his term, he was awarded the “1968 Order of the Fighting Cock” as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Governors for Community Development.

He was also a recipient of the Presidential Award of the “1970 Golden Bahay Kubo” for Most Outstanding Governor of the Philippines.

In 1997, his anti-poverty programs also earned the province the prestigious title as the “Most Outstanding Province of the Philippines”. (PNA)
