MANILA -- A Canadian citizen was arrested on Tuesday for possession of 649 Ephedrine tablets during an anti-illegal drug operation in Pasay City.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino identified the suspect as Gary Mader, 57, a Canadian residing in Santolan, Pasig City.

Aquino said that about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, authorities nabbed Mader at the Central Mail Exchange Center, Domestic Road in Pasay City and seized from him 649 Ephedrine tablets declared as “asthma supplement”, shipped by Nutrifarm Supplement, with an office address in Toronto, Canada.

Ephedrine has been reclassified as dangerous drug and is on the list of controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) pursuant to the Dangerous Drugs Board DDB Board Regulation No.4, Series of 2005.

The package containing the tablets was consigned to Mader who received it at the Central Mail Exchange Center. The tablets were discovered during a thorough examination of the package by a Customs examiner and sweeping by PDEA K9.

The suspect will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
