ILAGAN CITY, Isabela -- Laguna province won the girls 4x100m relay event on Friday to take the overall lead in the penultimate day of the 2019 Philippine Youth Games-Batang Pinoy Luzon qualifying leg at the Ilagan Sports Complex here.
The team of Janine Dauba, Kyla Elona, Magvrylle Chrause Matchino and Evita Ruth Belloso registered 52.0 seconds to give Laguna Province its 28th gold medal to go with 30 silvers and 27 bronzes in the tournament organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for students and out-of-school youth aged 15 years old and below.
Ilagan City's Carla Mae Sadia, Wena Anudon, Margie Panaligan and Reah Bacani clocked 52.7 to settle for silver while Pangasinan Province's Shinna Benavente, Geremae Domalanta, Jessica Villar and Ana Marie Eugenio timed in 52.8 for the bronze medal.
Matchino bagged the gold in 2000m steeplechase event while James Bryle Ballester ruled the boys’ division last Thursday.
Matchino won in 7:40.7 while Pangasinan’s Ana Marie Eugenio (8:07.9) and her teammate, Jennielyn Bacalando (8:30.5) to finish second and third, respectively.
Ballester, on the other hand, clocked 7:02.3 to win the gold over Ilagan City’s Mark Daniel Tambot (7:03.6) and Baguio City’s James Leann Poblete (7:14.9).
Meanwhile, Hussein Lorana claimed the gold medal in the boys 5000m for Baguio City, which jumped to second place with 27 golds, 31 silvers and 48 bronzes based on the medal tally as of noon.
Lorana finished the race in 7:16.0 to beat Ilagan City’s Mark Daniel Tambot (17:19.3) and San Fernando, Pampanga’s Cris Jay Pasion (17:42.2).
Baguio City’s other gold medalists were featherweight Raphael Jose Patting, welterweight Magnus Carlus Garcia II and middleweight Marc Gianne Racadio in taekwondo; Alon Yuan Jucutan and Jerla Gaona (mixed cub Oympic round); and Albert Gambican, Roshan Ronquillo and Jethro Fernandez (team boys cub Olympic round) in archery; Shane Kean Sison (boys 110m hurdles) in athletics and Leo Ibaro ruled the 14-15 boys’ intermediate kata in karatedo.
Quezon City, which pocketed three golds in karatedo courtesy of Raymond Akira San Victores (10-11 boys advance kata), Sebastien Neil Manalac (10-11 boys intermediate kata) and the team of Paolo Manuel Gorospe, Manalac and San Victores, slipped to third from first place with 24 golds, 17 silvers and 10 bronzes.
Pangasinan clinched three golds in athletics to climb from sixth to fourth place with 18 golds, 18 silvers and 16 bronzes. Gennalyn Estrada (girls shot put), Rufo Aidan Raguine (boys triple jump) and Ana Marie Eugenio (girls 400m hurdles) lead the gold winners that include Zhyrene Shane Bastasa and Jershey Salem (cadet mixed Olympic round) and the team of Chelsea Mae Clemente, Zhyrine Shayne Bastasa and Dinna Medina (girls’ cadet Olympic round) in archery; and welterweight Ericka Claudette Edrosolan (junior women) in taekwondo.
Taguig City slid to fifth from fourth with 18 golds, 16 silvers and 20 bronzes. The gold winners were karatedo’s Alekssa Mei Pareja (12-13 girls intermediate kata); Keanu Neil Rodriguez (12-13 boys intermediate kata); Rochelle Dano (14-15 girls intermediate kata); Allysa Eunice Dinglasan (girls 10-11 advance kata); Fatima A-Isha Hamsain (girls 12-13 advance kata); Ner Brian Galupo (12-13 boys advance kata); Drew Kirstein Tiglao (14-15 girls advance kata); Alekssa Mei Pareja, Fatima A-Isha Hamsain and Christina Karen Colonia (12-15 girls team kata); and Eljohn Lauresta, Ferdinand Fortes and John Clyde Cubic (12-15 boys team kata).
Pasig City got one gold from karatedo’s Margueritte Hornuchos (10-11 girls intermediate kata) and taekwondo’s Sofia Nicole Bacusa (middleweight kyorugi) and five more from arnis despite dropping to sixth from fifth place with 17 gold medals, 17 silvers and 18 bronzes.
The medalists in arnis were Eliyah Cervantes (cadet girls individual single and double weapon); Mon Cyruz Tumala, Louise Aldrich Vergara and Karl Ivan Dablo (cadet boys’ team open weapon); Jharie Matthew Magsancay (junior boys individual single weapon); and Irish Rueco (junior girls individual double weapon).
Dagupan City remains in seventh place with 13 golds, 10 silvers and seven bronzes followed by Makati City (13-6-9), Dasmarinas, Cavite (12-7-14) and Paranaque City (11-3-11). (PNA)
