MANILA -- Filipino war veterans will be able to avail of free rides at the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) in observance of the Philippine Veterans Week.
The LRT-2 management said free train rides will be offered to the veterans from April 5 to 11, 2019.
“In observance of the Philippine Veterans Week and the Araw ng Kagitingan, veterans may avail of unlimited free LRT-2 rides at any time between 4:30 a.m. until the last commercial train trip on these dates,” the LRT-2 said in its advisory on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the MRT-3 said the free ride for veterans will be from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
They are allowed to bring one companion and must present a valid Philippine Veterans Affairs Office identification card to avail of the free ride.
Proclamation No. 466 signed by former President Corazon Aquino in 1989 designates April 5 to 11 of every year as Philippine Veterans Week to recognize the valor and sacrifices of Filipino veterans during World War II.
This coincides with the observance of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on April 9, which marks the fall of Bataan during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II. (PNA)
