ROS zaps Magnolia at start of PH Cup semis

MANILA -- Rain Or Shine put on a second half show to beat Magnolia, 84-77, at the start of the semifinal round of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Friday night.

The Elasto Painters zoomed just as the offense picked up in the second half to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven series against the Hotshots.

Despite a slow approach, ROS took a 19-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.

But Magnolia took control of the second quarter and entered halftime ahead, 37-33.

The E-Painters, however, dropped 28 points in the third quarter to retake the lead, 61-58, and eventually secured the victory late in the final frame.

Javee Mocon made 15 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and one steal off the bench to lead ROS.

Gabe Norwood added 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block in a starting role.

Paul Lee made 15 points, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals off the bench for Magnolia, but after erupting from deep on Wednesday night against Ginebra in the quarterfinals. He went 0-for-7 from long distance two nights later. (PNA)
