MANILA -- Authorities from the Airport Police Division (APD) of the Manila International Airport Authority assisted a Canadian national who stayed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for days.

The Canadian national, identified as Yusuf Sydow, has been staying at NAIA's OFW lounge since April 12, airport police Senior Inspector Nemencio Bawalan told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Wednesday.

Bawalan said the APD contacted the Canadian Embassy on Tuesday regarding Sydow.

"The embassy requested us to bring Sydow to their office. We escorted him there today (Wednesday)," he said.

Bawalan added that they also brought Sydow to a hostel in Makati in the afternoon, so he could stay there while the embassy is arranging his papers.

"Based on his passport, his last (entry) to the Philippines was on August 16, 2017. He said he stayed in Surigao, then he went to Manila," he said.

The inspector added, "He stayed at a hotel. Now he doesn't have money to purchase a plane ticket to Canada."

An email forwarded to the PNA desk showed Sydow asking for help from the Canadian government.

Apparently, he has been sleeping at the airport's chairs for several days. He said in his email that he has no money, and asked for help so he could go back to Canada. (PNA)
