MANILA – The Magnolia Hotshots held on despite a late Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters fightback and took a 94-91 win in Game 4 of the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup semifinals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Monday night.
Up by 21 points, 60-39, early in the third quarter, the Hotshots found themselves in danger of blowing the game as the Elasto Painters came to within one, 91-92, with four seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Jio Jalalon gave Magnolia a little cushion as he made two free throws to bring the lead back up to three with 3.1 seconds left.
James Yap, however, had a great chance to force overtime but his triple rimmed out as time expired.
Ian Sangalang made 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists for the Hotshots, who tied their best-of-seven series against the E-Painters at two wins each.
Rafi Reavis also had a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points alongside one assist and one steal.
