BI ready to aid passengers diverted from Clark airport

MANILA -- Bureau of Immigration (BI) officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday assured that it has enough manpower to service passengers of flights that have been diverted to Manila from the Clark International Airport (CRK), which has been shut down after it sustained damages during Monday’s earthquake.

BI Port Operations Division Chief Grifton Medina said at the instruction of Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, he has extended, for an indefinite period, the ban on the filing of vacation leave by BI personnel assigned at the NAIA, particularly those performing counter duties.

“I have asked our primary line officers to extend the period of their sacrifice in the name of public service. Their services are much needed now with the influx of more passengers as a result of flight diversions from the Clark airport,” Medina said.

He likewise said the move was to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of service to the traveling public.

“We received reports that the repairs on Clark airport is almost completed, so we expect to return to normal operations soon," he added.
The 6.1-magnitude earthquake, which shook parts of Luzon, badly hit Pampanga, where CRK is located. (PR)
