Palaro Wushu athlete rushed to Davao hospital due to severe pain

DAVAO CITY – Three days into the opening of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa, a-17-year-old Wushu athlete from Lanao del Norte was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) on Wednesday for severe pain and difficulty of moving her upper arm.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, Major Maria Theresita Gaspan, said that athlete Key Pauline Coyoca complained of severe pain and difficulty to move her arms.

Gaspan said this prompted Patrolman Zinjie Mutia to call the medical team deployed at the Calinan Central Elementary School, the billeting station of the athletes from Baloi National High School, Lanao del Norte.

Gaspan said the girl was immediately checked by the attending physician and referred her for orthopedic evaluation and X-ray.

Coyoca's medical case is the first reported since the arrival of all delegates from 17 regions across the country for the 2019 Palarong Pambansa, which opens on Sunday, April 28.

The opening of the national games competition was moved on Sunday from Saturday at the Davao City-University of the Philippines-Mindanao Sports Complex in Bago Oshiro, Mintal, Tugbok District. (PNA)
