ZAMBOANGA CITY--A drug personality was killed in a shootout while some PHP63,000 worth of suspected shabu were recovered in an anti-drug operation in this southern port city, a police official said Tuesday.

Police Major Elmer Solon, Police Station 11 chief, identified the slain suspected drug pusher as Alnajir Najirul, a resident of Sitio Masepla, Barangay Mampang.

Solon said Najirul was killed when a shootout took place during a buy-bust operation around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday in Sitio Asinan, Barangay Kasanyangan.

Najirul yielded some 9.7 grams of suspected shabu packed in eight heat-sealed plastic sachets with an estimated market value of PHP63,000, a caliber .38 revolver with four live ammunition, and PHP11,680 cash in different denominations, police said.

Prior to the shootout, Solon said Najirul hurriedly boarded a motorcycle and sped towards a small alley upon sensing he was transacting the sale of illegal drugs to an undercover policeman.

Najirul opened fire when the policemen pursued him, the police official added.

Najirul was declared dead by the responding medic team that rushed to the shootout site, police said. (PNA)
