Ex-WBC champ to challenge Thai boxer in WBC ABC title

DAVAO CITY – Former World Boxing Council (WBC) world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro of the Philippines will challenge WBC Asian Boxing Council bantamweight champion Nawaphon Kaikana of Thailand on May 18 at the Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun, Thailand.

The 37-year-old Jaro, who has 45 wins, 14 losses and 32 knockouts to his record, won against Indonesian Boida Simanjuntak in the 5th round last March in Angono, Rizal.

In 2012, Jaro won the WBC World flyweight title by a TKO in the 6th round over Pongsaklek Wonjongkam. He also won the WBC International super flyweight title by beating Marjun Pantilgan in Makati City on Nov. 16, 2016.

On the other hand, the 27-year-old Kaikana (44W-1L-1D, 34KO) beat Worawatchai Boonjan by a unanimous decision on Dec. 18, 2018.

He won the vacant WBC ABC bantamweight title by beating Likit Chane on July 21, 2018. He retained the title by a TKO in the 4th round over Richard Claveras of the Philippines on Nov. 17, 2018 in Bang Phun, Thailand. (PNA)
