CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY--A fire that broke out on a building owned by a city councilor here destroyed an estimated PHP1 million worth of properties Tuesday evening.

In a statement Wednesday, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said they are still investigating the fire that razed the residential and commercial building owned by Councilor George Goking in Barangay Carmen.

In an interview with a local radio station, Goking said the second floor of the building is where he used to reside, while the ground floor is made of concrete materials and being rented out to the Cagayan de Oro Light Company (CEPALCO).

BFP said the building's second floor was totally destroyed, and the ground floor considerably damaged.

Goking, who was in the building when the fire broke out, said he was shocked when the fire suddenly engulfed the second floor.

He said he and his siblings managed to run for safety outside. (PNA)
