Peñalosa, TV5 ESPN kicks off tournament for grass-roots talents

DAVAO CITY – Former two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa and TV5 ESPN  headed by Chot Reyes, is kicking off the tournament for grassroots talents dubbed the Ultimate Boxing Series on June 2.

“This will be the first boxing series in the Philippines,” said Peñalosa.

The boxers will be paired via draw lots for transparency purposes and will arrive in Manila on May 16 for the official launch of the event.

The winners of the eliminations move on to the semis until there are only two flyweights and two bantamweights left to vie for the championships.

The boxers and trainers will be housed within a single venue before the elimination round.

A TV5 ESPN crew will monitor and film their activities, training sessions, will conduct interviews and following the concept of reality TV show.

The finals will be shown live on August 25. (PNA)
