IMUS CITY, Cavite – Former Cavite governor, Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla, now seeking to stage a comeback, came out to answer some of the allegations of a Bacoor resident who filed a petition Wednesday urging the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to disqualify him for his supposed involvement in vote-buying.
“This is a disservice to Caviteños,” said Remulla at a press conference at Isla Events Center here, aired live over his official Facebook page (Jonvic Remulla), on Thursday afternoon.
Remulla said he is saddened that instead of talking about more important issues that affect Caviteños, such as drugs, flood, traffic, and jobs, the issue is zeroing on “vote buying”.
On Wednesday, resident Efepania Sunico of Bacoor City filed the petition for disqualification at Comelec Manila due to the alleged incident of vote-buying during Remulla's political campaign rally last May 4 in Barangay Zapote V, Bacoor City.
Ten suspects identified as Remulla’s supporters were arrested by elements of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cavite Provincial Field Unit (PFU) and elements of Cavite Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) for allegedly distributing brown envelopes containing PHP200, a plastic bag containing red wristbands, as well as other campaign materials bearing the names "Jonvic Remulla Gobernador" and "Jolo Revilla Bise Gobernador".
The suspects were presented for inquest proceedings before Fiscal Bernadeth Platon at the Bacoor City Hall of Justice but were released Tuesday (May 7) without charges by CIDG for further investigation.
Remulla promised to respond to the issues “in due time” if a formal complaint is filed against him.
Meantime, Police Lieutenant Col. Chitadel Gaorian, information chief of the Calabarzon Police Office, assured that the police remains apolitical and that they will run after any involved in illegal activities, regardless of political affiliations of those involved. (PNA)
