COTABATO CITY – Two successive blasts rocked a grassy area just outside the back fence of the city hall here on Sunday night. No one was hurt in the incident.

The 10:15 p.m. blast at the proposed site of the Children’s Park in Purok Omar, Barangay Rosary Heights 10, occurred a few hours before the conduct of the May 13 midterm polls.

“Police investigators and members of the bomb ordnance disposal team are yet to determine the cause of the explosion,” said Lieutenant Teofisto Ferrer, Jr. of the city police office.

Initial investigation revealed that 40-mm grenades fired from M-79 grenade launchers could have caused the blasts.

Earlier, the Commission on Elections declared the entire island of Mindanao as an election hotspot. (PNA)
