PDP-Laban candidates dominate Siquijor polls

DUMAGUETE CITY – Majority of the winners in Monday’s mid-term elections in Siquijor province ran under the PDP-Laban administration party.

Official results from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the island-province showed that re-electionist Governor Zaldy “Jecoy” Villa (PDP-Laban) garnered 41,155 votes over Joecel Luy's (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas or PFP) 14,004.

Other PDP Laban winners included Board Members Cyrus Olpoc, Leonardo Lingcay, and Dar Lynn Honrubia for the first district, and Dindo Tumala and Noel Monte in the second district.

Another winner for Board Member in the first district was independent candidate Orville Fua with 10,348 votes.

Except for Fua, the rest of the Board Members are incumbents.

Newcomer Jec-jec Villa of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), son of Gov. Villa, topped the congressional race with 26,840 votes, defeating incumbent Rep. Rav Rocamora (PDP-Laban) who earned 18,755 votes, followed by Orlando Fua, Jr. (Ind) with 10,382 votes, Marie Ann Pernes (PFP) with 2,849 votes, and Demosthenes Fernandez (Ind) with 223 votes.

Another NPC candidate, Vice Governor Mei Ling Quezon, got re-elected with 29,230 votes.

Meanwhile, elected/re-elected mayors and vice-mayors of the six towns of Siquijor, majority of whom ran under PDP-Laban, are as follows:

Mayor Gerold Pal-ing and Vice Mayor Leonardo Paculba of Enrique Villanueva town; Mayor Danny Villa and Vice Mayor Cyrus Calibo of Larena; Mayor James Monte and Vice Mayor Earl Aljas of Lazi; Mayor Meynard Dondon Asok and Vice Mayor Ivy Dan Samson of Maria; San Juan: Mayor James Capundag and Vice Mayor Gemma Cenas of San Juan; and Mayor Richard Quezon and Vice Mayor Junnie Jumawan of Siquijor.

Members of the municipal councils of the six towns who won in this year's polls are also mostly members of the administration party.

The Siquijor winners were proclaimed Thursday morning by the Provincial Board of Canvassers and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) headed by OIC provincial election supervisor, lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano. (PNA)
