Philippines' Mananquil loses to Japanese boxer by TKO

DAVAO CITY – The Philippines’ Ben “Nightmare” Mananquil lost via a technical knockout to Yuki “Strong” Kobayashi of Japan in the 10th round. during his first defense of the WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title on Sunday in Osaka City University in Osaka, Japan.

It was only the second loss suffered by the 27-year-old Mananquil against his record of 17 wins and 3 draws.

The 27-year-old Kobayashi improved his record to 15 wins with 9 knockouts.

Kobayashi recently lost to Keita Kurihara by a unanimous decision to win the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight title on Dec. 24, 2018.

Meanwhile, Masahiro Sakamoto won the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific flyweight crown by a technical knockout over Yusuke Sakashita in the same event.

The 28-year-old Sakamoto improved his record to 13 wins with 9 knockouts against 3 losses.
