MANILA -- Authorities arrested a 65-year-old drug suspect and seized PHP10-million worth of shabu in a buy-bust operation in Pateros Tuesday.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, identified the suspect as Angelo Reyes, who was arrested by the joint elements of NCRPO Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU), Pateros Police Station and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-NCR in an anti-drug operation at 153 P. Rosales St., Alley 2, Unit 12, in Pateros.

He said the operation was hatched through casing and surveillance against the suspect resulting in a positive validation.

The suspect yielded a total of 1,500 grams of shabu; one Toyota Altis, 10 bundles of PHP1,000 boodle money and drug paraphernalia.

Eleazar said that based on investigation, Reyes is connected to a group of Chinese nationals engaged in the illegal drug trade, which operates in the southern part of Metro Manila and Laguna.

"Our government is exerting a concerted effort. All concerned agencies, including PDEA with the active support of the PNP and the Bureau of Customs, Philippine Coast Guard and other agencies are working together to combat large-scale drug trafficking not only in Metro Manila but across the country,” Eleazar said.

"We have some information and this is part of our case build-up operation to identify his clients and suppliers,” he added.

The arrested suspect and recovered pieces of evidence were brought to the RDEU office and will be subjected to technical examination by the PNP Crime Laboratory Office.

Reyes will face charges for violation of Section 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
