COTABATO CITY – Police detained the station manager of a community FM radio after a freak accident involving him and three women along a highway in North Cotabato Friday evening.

Benny Queman, manager of Radyo Bandera FM station based in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, immediately surrendered to police authorities after his vehicle ran over three persons along the national highway in Barangay Lika, M’lang, North Cotabato at past 10 p.m.

Lt. Colonel Geovanni Ladeo, M’lang town police chief, identified the victims as Archie Sagcelo, Saicy Dimalaluan, and Trixie Morga, all residents of M’lang.

Ladeo, citing traffic investigation, said that the three victims were on board a motorbike driven by Sagcelo.

“They were along the unlighted portion of the Matalam-M’lang highway when they hit another motorbike being pushed by its driver, Joseph Molina, due to a mechanical problem,” Ladeo said.

Ladeo said the motorbike carrying three persons accidentally hit Molina and his motorbike that led to the three victims being thrown off the bike.

The vehicle driven by Queman was coming from the opposite direction and accidentally ran over the three. All the victims sustained serious head injuries.

Two died on the spot while the third expired at the hospital.

Molina, who also sustained injuries, is now confined at a hospital in M’lang.

Queman said he was not at fault.

“It was purely accidental, I did not mean to run over the victims, I did not see them,” he said. “To the victims’ relatives, I am sorry and Lord I am sorry,” Queman said in his social media post following the accident.

He is currently under police custody at the M’lang municipal police station. (PNA)
