MANILA — Gilas Pilipinas Women split their first two games in the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup in Ulaanbaatar on Monday night.

Gilas Women suffered a disastrous 2-22 loss to France but bounced back with a 20-14 victory over host nation Mongolia.

Despite holding France to just four points in the first three minutes of their maiden match, Gilas Women could not buy a basket for almost the entire game, and France eventually pulled away and eclipsed the 21-point finish just before time expired.

However, Angelica Surada, who was held scoreless in the first game, had an easier time inside against Mongolia, and she eventually led Gilas Women to the victory.

Surada finished with seven points in the Mongolia match, equaling Camille Clarin's total points in Day 1.

Clarin, who helped Gilas Women avert a shutout against France along with Ella Fajardo, had six markers against Mongolia.

Gilas Women will face Netherlands and Czech Republic on Wednesday night, and they need to sweep their remaining assignments to make the playoffs on Friday. (PNA)
