MANILA — Makati congressman Monsour del Rosario did not hurl ill feelings on Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas after he was removed from the Southeast Asian Games chef de mission post and instead expressed gratitude that he was tasked for the role.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to serve our country as chef de mission," the former taekwondo champion and actor said in a statement on Monday night.

Amid the row, del Rosario urged the sports community to set aside differences and "unite toward the goal of reclaiming our former lofty status in international sports".

Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez was eventually named the new CDM, and del Rosario called on everyone to support Ramirez.

"I urge everyone to support the next chef de mission because while national team success is dependent on the quality of athletic talent and coaching, effective leadership of Team Philippines is equally critical for a successful participation in the SEA Games," he said.

He added that he "will continue supporting the national team in whatever capacity to ensure its success." (PNA)
