PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur -- The municipal government Labangan is allocating funds to help solve the problem on the shortage of teachers in public schools.

This, as the local government of Labangan announced the hiring of qualified Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) graduates to teach in barangays that lack teachers.

Labangan Mayor Eduardo Relacion said Tuesday the funds will be used to pay the salaries of teachers who will be hired this school year.

Relacion said among the areas in Labangan that lack teachers are Barangays Balimbingan, Cogonan, and Dipaya.

Meanwhile, Relacion said he has requested the Department of Education (DepEd) to allocate funds to construct additional school buildings in Labangan.

He said the increase in enrollment was the result of the local government's grassroots campaign to convince the parents to send their children to school.

Labangan, a third-class municipality, is comprised of 25 barangays with a population of 41,790 as of the 2015 census. (PNA)
