DAVAO CITY — Police arrested the provincial Information Officer of Davao del Sur and his wife in Padada town for syndicated illegal recruitment, police said Tuesday.

Maj. Reuben Libera, chief of the Sasa Police Station, said the police operation against Davao del Sur Provincial Information Officer Sherwin Cesar and his wife, Joy Luy Cesar, was covered by the arrest warrant issued by a regional court in Davao City on May 27, 2019.

The couple's arrest was only known on Monday after Sherwin and Joy Luy were brought to the Sasa Police Station in Davao City for processing.

Libera said the Cesars are among the suspects in a large-scale illegal recruitment that lured applicants to work in Japan in exchange for hefty fees.

The other suspects, who remain at large as of this posting, are identified as Anne Katherine S. Torretegui who is also known as Ann Torretegui, Anna Rose Canoy Arlos, and Tetsu Wazhisu.

Libera said the Cesars and the other suspects failed to send any of their recruits to Japan, prompting them to go to the police.

“We have complainants against them,” Libera said in a phone interview.

No bail has been recommended for the couple. (PNA)
