MANILA -- The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has opened the submission of applications or recommendations for upcoming vacancies in the Supreme Court (SC) and the Legal Education Board (LEB).

In an announcement Thursday, SC Clerk of Court and JBC ex officio secretary Edgar Aricheta said two vacancies are opening up in the High Court, as Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza and Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio will compulsorily retire from the service on September 26 and October 26, respectively.

Interested applicants must submit two complete sets of applications or recommendations not later than 4:30 p.m. on July 30.

The JBC said a recommendation or nomination filed in lieu of an application may be given due course only if the person has signified his or her acceptance along with the other documentary requirements.

Aside from service records, academic records, and when applicable, performance appraisals, applicants are also required to file a statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN), copies of complaints or records of pending cases if any, medical records, as well as clearances from the Office of the Bar Confidant, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Office of the Ombudsman, National Bureau of Investigation, and local police.

Aside from the SC vacancies, the JBC also announced two vacancies in the Legal Education Board after the end of the term of chairperson Emerson B. Aquende and regular member Zenaida Elepano ended last January 19. (PNA)
