MANILA — Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio said on Friday they are now collaborating with FIBA in the gear-up for the 2023 FIBA World Cup that the Philippines will host along with Japan and Indonesia.

"Right now, we're working with FIBA," Panlilio said during the SBP National Congress at the Meralco Gym in Pasig City.

He, however, said FIBA's own preparation for the upcoming edition of the said competition in China is slowing the early preparation down for the meantime.

"FIBA is still very busy for the World Cup in China," Panlilio said.

However, he added that the preparation will begin going full throttle right after China's hosting is done.

"Maybe by it would be in October, they'll be knocking our doors. We will start planning for 2023," Panlilio added.

But as early as now, the SBP now has a plan in mind, Panlilio said.

"We've already organized ourselves locally. We already have sort of a structure that we will be pursuing. We will also have to work with the other two countries, Japan and Indonesia, together with FIBA," he said. (PNA)
