CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- Senator Maria Lourdes “Nancy”  Binay took her oath of office before two barangay officials at the Queen Isabella Park in Alibagu village here on Sunday evening.

She was sworn into office by village heads Maricon Padillo of San Pedro in Tumauini town and Ariel Tabangcura of Alibagu in this city.

“I will be proud to be recognized as the Senator from the Province of Isabela during the 18th Congress and I will continue to cherish the support you gave me in the last elections,” Binay said in her speech.

The senator’s parents, former Vice President Jejomar Binay and former Makati Mayor Elenita Binay and other family members, attended the oath-taking rites.

Her siblings, reelected Makati Mayor Abby Binay and former Mayor Junjun Binay did not attend the affair.

The former vice president hails from Cabagan town in Isabela.

Binay was third in the ranking of senators with the most number of votes in Isabela with 413,817, after frontrunner Cynthia Villar and Imee Marcos.

The outcome of the elections brought “very anxious” moments for her, she said, as she had to wait for a week before the final results were officially declared. However, when the national canvassers said that only the votes from Isabela had yet to be canvassed, she felt relieved.

“Hindi ko kayo bibiguin (I will not fail you),” she told Isabelinos.

Binay thanked her supporters for their prayers and trust that helped her win the election despite her meager resources. (PNA)
