Capacio, Sara connive to lift Bulacan past Basilan

MANILA -- Gwynne Capacio and Dan Sara took over for the Bulacan Kuyas as the team scored a 65-55 home win against Basilan Steel in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in Malolos City on Tuesday night.

Capacio tallied 21 points, while Sara added 17 for the Kuyas, who pulled away from the now gritty Steel in the fourth quarter, 23-14.

Junkie Hallare went perfect from the field, making all of his five shots, for 11 points with two rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks for Basilan, which fizzled in the end despite forcing 27 Bulacan turnovers.

In the earlier game, Mindoro Tamaraws survived Parañaque Patriots for its first win, 63-61.

Sandy Cenal stepped up for the Tamaraws, scoring 16 points, eight rebounds, and one block off the bench as they held off the Patriots.

Mac Baracael led the Mindoro starters with 12 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

Jemal Vizcarra and Rommel Mangalino each tallied 13 markers for Parañaque.

Meanwhile, Almond Vosotros exploded for Caloocan Supremos in an 83-74 win against Zamboanga Rapidos.

In an emotional battle marred with technical fouls and even the ejection of Rapidos coach Raymond Valenzona, the Supremos got huge help from Vosotros, who dropped 31 points on 7-of-14 field goals and 14-of-15 free throws off the bench.

John Escalambre chipped in 12 markers, nine rebounds, one dime, and two blocks for Caloocan.

Med Salim paced Zamboanga with 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists off the bench. (PNA)
