MANILA -- Cocolife will remain the primary backer of the Davao Occidental Tigers for the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Season.

The partnership between the reigning Southern Division champions and the insurance company was solidified in a formal signing of the memorandum of agreement at the Cocolife office in Makati City on Friday.

Newly-elected Congresswoman Claudine Bautista, Davao Occidental's team owner, and Cocolife president Jose Martin Loon signed the papers signifying the renewed alliance between the two bodies.

"I'm very optimistic that with this continued partnership, we can definitely reach greater heights for both Davao Occidental and Cocolife," Loon said in a press conference that took place right after the signing.

He later hinted that the "solid" partnership will be on a long run.

"As long as I'm president, I can assure it will continue," Loon continued.

He then expressed optimism that the Tigers will finally win the national title after falling short last season when they lost the deciding Game 5 at home to the San Juan Knights.

"I hope that this [season] will bring us the championship, finally," said Loon.

Bautista then turned the said hope into a dare.

"The Davao Occidental Tigers, I'm addressing you. let us take this as a challenge," said Bautista. (PNA)
