DAVAO CITY – Five Filipino boxers bowed to their respective rivals in a tournament promoted by a Japanese boxing promotion Akihiko Honda of the Teikin Promotions and held at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on Saturday
Al “Rock” Toyogon of Misamis Oriental lost by a unanimous decision to Japanese Shuya Masaki, absorbing his second straight and 4th defeat against 10 wins and 1 draw.
Masaki improved his ring record to 13-1 and avenged his countryman Ryusei Ishii’s defeat to the 21-year-old Toyogon on January 26 this year in Paranaque City.
Rey Orais, 34-year-old campaigner Leyte, also lost by a split decision to Japanese Hayate Kaji.
Orais has now 20-19-2 slate while Kaji remains undefeated with already 13 wins including his previous victory against Arnold Garde of Davao City, last March 27 also at Korakuen Hall.
Glenn “Little Naverette” Medura of Zamboanga also lost via a fourth-round retirement to Kenichi Ogawa.
Medura suffered its sixth loss in 17 fights while Ogawa posted his 18th knockout in 25 fights marked by only one defeat.
Arvin Yurong (12W-3L-0D) of Parañaque was knocked out by Mikito Nakano (3W-0L) in second round while Marlon Paniamogan (9W-1L-1D) lost by a unanimous decision to Gonta Lee (2W-0L). (PNA)
