MANILA -- Stressing that a person’s genes dictate response to treatment and nutrition, an expert in physical therapy said that genetic profiling is key in the effective treatment of recurring pain.

“Your genetic profiling gives the direction on how to best optimize your health and wellbeing. Your DNA profile is unique to you and this determines how your body will react to exercise, nutrition and lifestyle,” Marianne Yee, physical therapist at the Almario Physio Team (APT), told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in an interview.

Yee is also the author of Prueba, an all-encompassing genetic profiling to optimize one’s health and wellbeing. It uses innovative diagnostics technology from the United States.

“Through Prueba, APT wants to change the experience for our patients, recovery is easy and comfortable, and not a pain, so we can get them back to being active again,” Yee said.

The APT is a group of medical practitioners, which aims to bring in innovative technology and techniques to the physical therapy industry through training, research and development.

Citing that the young and the old can undergo the treatment program, she explained it has been proven safe in other countries as it uses the patients’ genetic profile as a guide.

“The safety also comes from the machines and we have doctors who will check you to clear you for the program, and throughout the program, you will be handled by licensed and trained physical therapists,” she added.

Aimed at determining the underlying health problem on recurring muscle and joint pains, Prueba runs for a minimum of two months with four phases - identification, preparation, enhancement, and maintenance.

“We use the genetic analysis result as a guide then we combine it -- pain and weight management. And in the maintenance stage, we’ll help patients have the strength and flexibility, this is to ensure that we’ll be able to guide you in your new active lifestyle,” Yee said.

The program involves the use of state-of-the-art machines, which include the Rehab Roller, Rehab Capsule, Vacuum Treadmill, Body Composition Analyzer and Real Time Ultrasound Imaging for core muscles.

“Machines today just mask the pain and not doing anything on the relieving you of the root cause, but these machines will effectively reset your body whether you have pain or backache due to poor posture,” she said.

"These technologies in our clinic is really more on unleashing your body's maximum potential, it is not just the slimming aesthetics. It's about making you stronger and making you more effective in your daily life, achieve an active lifestyle which changes the quality of your life," she added. (PNA)
