2 killed, 4 hurt in separate Cotabato City shootings

COTABATO CITY – Two persons died while four others were wounded in two separate shooting incidents here Wednesday.

Colonel Portia Manalad, the city police director, said security measures have been heightened following the twin shooting incidents that transpired amid the strategic deployment of policemen in crime-prone areas of the city.

“We urge the public to inform us if they have knowledge on the identities and whereabouts of these criminals,” Manalad said in an interview by reporters here.

Around 1:30 p.m., riding-in-tandem suspects on three motorcycles tailed and fired on a car with village officials of Barangay Tuka, Mamasapano, Maguindanao onboard along Notre Dame Avenue here.

Manalad said Basser Ampatuan, 41, a member of Barangay Tuka’s armed peacekeeping unit, died on the spot.

Police identified the individuals rushed to the hospital as Norodin Mangandian Guiaman, 34, chairman of Barangay Tuka, Mamasapano, Maguindanao; Sindatu Agao, village treasurer of Tuka; and a certain Alwaida Mangacop Guiaman, 28.

“The victims in the hospital remain under close observation by doctors,” the police official said.

Earlier on the same day, riding-in-tandem suspects also ambushed and killed one of two men onboard a separate motorbike along L. R. Sebastian Street, Barangay Rosary Heights 11.

Manalad identified the slain victim as Jemran Midtimbang, a village watchman, while his injured companion was identified as Benjie Abdillah. Both men were residents of Pansacala Street, Barangay Rosary Heights 10.

She said investigation on the twin shooting incidents is ongoing. (PNA)
