DAVAO CITY – Filipino lightweight campaigner Roldan “The Cobra” Aldea knocked out undefeated Mikhail Alexeev of Russia at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia, on Saturday (July 13).

The 25-year-old southpaw from Negros Occidental stopped his Russian opponent in the eighth of their 10-round fight to improve his ring record to 14-7-1.

It was Aldea’s second straight stoppage victory after knocking out Nathan Bolcio of Benguet right in the first round on May 4, 2019.

In Osaka, Japan, Joe “Jaw Breaker” Noynay of Cebu retained his first World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific super featherweight title by a technical knockout against Satoshi Shimizu of Japan in the 6th round at the EDION Arena on Friday (July 12).

In the same card jointly organized by Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions and Bob Arum of Top Rank, Filipino Jonathan “Lightning” Taconing lost by a TKO in the fourth round to defending champion Ken “The Amazing Boy” Shiro of Japan.

It was Taconing’s 4th loss against 28 wins and 1 draw while the 27-year old Shiro remained undefeated in 16 fights highlighted by nine stoppages.

Meanwhile, Ryota Murata of Japan avenged his title by a TKO over Rob Brant of United States via a second-round stoppage to win back the WBA middleweight title.

Murata, now with 15 wins and 2 losses, lost to Brant by a unanimous decision in Las Vegas on October 20 last year. (PNA)
