DAVAO CITY--Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat said she has ordered a “forensic auditing” of all government offices to spot anomalies and hold erring officials accountable.
In a press conference here Thursday, Rabat said she is particularly looking into the local finance units of the city government consisting of the City Planning, Accounting, Treasury, and the Budget Office.
"When you say forensic audit it means that if you happen to get evidence, that should be addressed. If there is an anomalous transaction, there is a need for you to respond," she said.
"I’m not passing judgment, I just want to know if there are any [anomalies] based on the documents,” she said, adding the audit is part of her administration’s policy on transparency and accountability.
The lady mayor said she also directed employees to report early in their respective offices so that they can address the needs of the city's constituents.
“The process would become easy if the signatories will be present in the office. So the red tape was already cut and I hope this will be sustained,” Rabat added.
The mayor recalled that during her first day in office, she immediately ordered a cleanup on the public market in a "symbolic" gesture of her administration's commitment against "filth". (PNA)
