ILOILO CITY – The Iloilo provincial government, through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), welcomes Ilonggo jobseekers as it opens this year’s JobStart Philippines Program.

In an interview Wednesday, PESO-Iloilo head Francisco Heler said the JobStart program is a full-cycle employment facilitation service providing free employability enhancement and skills training with allowance to qualified applicants.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for JobStart Iloilo’s Wave 2019 was signed between Provincial Administrator Lawyer Suzzette Mamon and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Assistant Regional Director Ma. Victoria Mondragon at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol Board Room.

“For 2019, 100 slots will be made available for qualified youth with 10-day Life Skills Training, up to three months of Technical Skills Training, and maximum of three months of Internship with PESO-partner industries,” Heler said.

He added that all of the training is free, including allowances, insurance, medical and security fees.

Meanwhile, Mondragon said she has seen the dedication of the PESO-Iloilo in the implementation of employment programs of DOLE.

The program, funded by the DOLE and Asian Development Bank, aims to address issues in unemployment and job mismatch, especially to young jobseekers having a difficult time finding jobs after their school education, she said.

“We hope through the JobStart, we will employ more young adults who are less successful in the transition from school to work,” she said.

Heler said registration for JobStart has started on Monday and will last until August 9, 2019.

Interested applicants must visit the PESO-Iloilo office at 5th Floor, Iloilo Provincial Capitol and bring with them requirements such as the birth certificate or valid identification card with birthdate, certificate of residency, school records which include Form 138, school diploma, and transcript of records.

Applicants must be 18 to 24 years old, at least high school graduate, currently not studying, not working, not in training, with less than one-year work experience, a resident of Iloilo province, and actively looking for work. (PNA)
