DAVAO CITY – The local government unit of Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte kicked off on Saturday its celebration of a youth festival dubbed as the "1st Tatay Erning's Cup 2019" spearheaded by young leaders from the Office of the Municipal Mayor.

The activity is one of the highlights of the town's celebration of its 60th founding anniversary on August 14.

A parade was held around the town's major streets to signal the start of the festival that will mainly feature sports-related activities from July 27 to August 13.

Sto. Tomas Mayor Ernesto Evangelista, locally known as "Tatay Erning", has expressed his administration's commitment to promoting sports programs, league competition, and amateur sports.

He said the festival would be an appropriate ground to showcase the youth's skills in traditional and e-sports.

"This would preserve and promote the desirable traditional and universal values in physical fitness and sports among the youth," Evangelista said.

"The goal of my administration is to foster growth in them (the youth) and within the community through sports," he added.

The festival will also showcase various inter-school and inter-barangay sports competitions, "Laro ng Lahi", on-the-spot painting contest, skateboarding, cosplay competition, DOTA 2 tournament and Mobile Legends tournament. (PNA)
