DAVAO CITY--Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib reassured the public that he is not protecting dubious investment companies proliferating in the province that promised high rates of return.

In a statement released by the Provincial Information Office Tuesday, Jubahib rejected claims that he and 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, his political mentor, are shielding some personalities involved in high-yielding but illegal investment schemes.

“That is not true. Congressman Alvarez and I do not protect operators of investment schemes,” the governor said.

More than 50 investment companies sprouted in the province particularly in Tagum City, almost all of whom have been closed following President Rodrigo Duterte's crackdown on dubious investment schemes.

Jubahib said the interest of the victims remains the provincial government's priority as of now. “We will do our best to help the victims recover their investments".

As part of the measure, the governor said he will call for a multi-agency meeting to discuss the immediate prosecution of personalities involved in get-rich-quick scams.

He said several personalities have been slapped with syndicated estafa cases after fleeing with hundreds of millions of pesos of investors’ money.

Just last week, irate victims ransacked the houses of operators of an investment company and carted away appliances, furniture, and even stripped a luxury car owned by one of the company's founders. (PNA)
