Community engagement, LGUs vital to police peace building efforts

CAMP GEN. VICENTE LIM, Calamba City – The Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog region underscored the vital role of police partnerships with local government units (LGUs) and other sectors in the fight against illegal drugs, rebellion and other hindrances to peace in the community.

This was the message of Secretary Jose Maria Nicomedes F. Hernandez, Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog and chair Calabarzon's Regional Task force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC), when he graced the “24th Police Community Relations Month” observance on Wednesday at this camp.

“I thank the people behind the Community Affairs and Development Division for mobilizing the community towards cooperation and unity in sharing with the government’s programs," Hernandez said, recognizing police efforts in peace and order through the cooperation of various sectors.

He likewise acknowledged Calabarzon and MIMAROPA LGUs and other stakeholders for their unrelenting support to the Philippine National Police (PNP). “Everybody should be a key player. Think of the country’s future. Let us support the PNP,” Hernandez urged.

During the event, Police Regional Office (PRO4A)-Calabarzon Regional Director Brig. Gen. Edward E. Carranza recognized the outstanding provincial police offices, units and officers “for their selfless contribution leading to the region’s success against criminalities and lawlessness”.

The Police Community Relations Month themed “Sambayanan, Mahalagang Kaakibat ng Kapulisan sa Pagtaguyod ng Mapayapa at Maunlad na Bayan” observed every July, culminating with the awarding of PNP personnel as well as police offices that have performed admirably.

The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) in Region 4A also gave recognition to Local Chief Executives (LCEs) for their "outstanding services to the community and invaluable leadership, diligence and dedication to serve their respective constituents."

Hernandez, assisted by Carranza and other top regional police officials presented the awards to Quezon Police Provincial Office for Outstanding Police Provincial Office; Sta. Rosa City Police Station for Outstanding City Police Station; and Teresa, Rizal for Outstanding Municipal Police Station.

Meantime, awarded outstanding Senior Police Commissioned Officer (PCO) was Naic, Cavite chief of police Lt. Col. Janet Arinabo; while the Outstanding Junior PCO to Maj. Marcelina F. Peralta, chief of the Provincial Community Affairs and Development Branch (PCADB), Batangas Provincial Police Office. (PNA)
