KIDAPAWAN CITY – “Do not sleep on your job.”

This warning was issued by Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista to all village officials as he reiterated that local officials have the responsibility to ensure their constituents are safe from the scourge  of the dengue virus.

The city registered one death over 462 dengue cases of dengue since January 1 this year. Across the region, the province of South Cotabato has the highest number of dengue fatalities at 22 with 4,148 dengue cases during the same period.

Evangelista said the number of dengue patients in Kidapawan City is rising and local officials must not be complacent.

“Everyone must act to destroy breeding sites of dengue-carrying mosquitoes before it will take another life of Kidapaweños,” he said as he directed all 40 village chairpersons of Kidapawan to practice regularly the ABKD program of the government.

ABKD stands for “Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue”, which calls on  everyone in the community to clean their surroundings and save lives.

Evangelista pointed out that dengue is a preventable disease and that there is no reason not to be able prevent it. (PNA)
