ZAMBOANGA CITY--Police arrested two suspected “hired killers” during an "intelligence-driven operation" in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, an official said Monday.

Maj. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Arvin Emperio of Misamis Occidental, and Jayson Jakosalem of Lanao del Norte, who were arrested around 11:25 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Punta, Dipolog City.

Galvez said the suspects were roaming around aboard a motorcycle waiting for the opportune time “to execute their target” when arrested by policemen.

She said the supposed “execution plan” was discovered on a cellular phone containing the recorded conversation of the suspects.

Emperio and Jakosalem were allegedly planning to kill a retired police officer, the police official said, adding the suspects have pending charges for robbery and illegal possession of firearms in the cities of Oroquieta and Dipolog.

Recovered from the suspects were a grenade, a caliber .45 pistol and caliber .38 revolver with ammunition, two cellular phones, two sachets of suspected shabu, and one face mask, police said.

Police said the suspects were detained at the police headquarters of Dipolog City. (PNA)
