DAVAO CITY -- After being declared as an adopted member of the National Unity Party (NUP) early this week, Rep. Paolo "Pulong" Duterte of this city's first district said he is open to more "adoptions" from other political groups.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the young Duterte said he is honored to be part of the NUP, one of the biggest political organizations in the country.

“To all other political groups out there, I am still up for adoption!” the Presidential Son said.

The neophyte lawmaker said his willingness to join more political groups stems from his desire to serve the public and unify different political groups towards that common objective.

“As the House deputy speaker for political affairs, my main task is to unify all members of Congress towards a common goal -- that is to improve the lives of the Filipino people,” the younger Duterte said.

“In unity there is strength,” Duterte said, adding that, “this would be a first in Philippine politics, and it happened under the Duterte administration.”

Duterte ran as congressman under the local party Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL) and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), a regional party chaired by his sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. (PNA)
