CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- Despite intermittent rains, at least 400 villagers in Basco, Batanes participated Wednesday in a run-for-a-cause event dubbed “Run for Fun, Rise as One” in the island-province, in an effort to raise more funds for the Itbayat earthquake victims, on Wednesday.

Dr. Alfonso Simon, Batanes State College president, told the Philippine News Agency in a Messenger chat that he ran around Basco town together with college faculty members, school teachers and students, local government unit workers and different national agency representatives.

“The Ivatans are one in bringing brightness in the lives of the Kahilyans or Kaydians in Itbayat,” he said.

Simon said that a total of PHP23,894 was raised during the event, to be given directly to Itbayat earthquake victims.

“The weather was cooperative with us. During the entire run, there were only intermittent rains unlike after the event and until now that we have heavy rains,” he said.

Weather reports said Typhoon Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Batanes and the Babuyan group of islands, due to Tropical Storm Hanna. (PNA)
