GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- A target-listed drug personality was killed in an alleged shootout with police operatives in Tantangan town, South Cotabato province on Tuesday afternoon.

Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, director of the Police Regional Office-12, identified the slain suspect as Tong Manguda, who was described as a notorious drug pusher in the area.

Citing a report from the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU)-12, Rasco said the 40-year-old Manguda was subjected to a buy-bust operation around 5 p.m. at the vicinity of Purok Salukag, Barangay Poblacion in Tantangan.

During the transaction, Rasco said the suspect sensed that he was dealing with a police operative and tried to escape.

Manguda, who was cornered at a nearby rice field, drew a .45-caliber handgun and fired at the pursuing members of the operating team, the PRO-12 chief said.

“Our operatives were forced to retaliate, fatally hitting the suspect in the process,” Rasco said, adding the suspect was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.

Police said Manguda yielded a sachet of suspected shabu, PHP500 marked money, an unmarked motorcycle, and a cellphone.

RPDEU-12 said Manguda is a known drug pusher and included in the drug watch list of the regional police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Region 12. (PNA)
