MANILA -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to have its own hospital under a new law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Duterte signed the "Philippine Coast Guard General Hospital Act" (Republic Act 11372) on August 8 but a copy of the document was only released to reporters on Wednesday (August 14).
The Philippine Coast Guard General Hospital is for the personnel and employees of the PCG, their dependents, and the retired uniformed personnel.
Aside from providing comprehensive and total health care services to all PCG personnel and employees, as well as their dependents and retired uniform personnel, it is also expected to complement the existing package of services under the health care program; conduct medical examination of all trainees of the PCG, and monitor the condition of patients; and generate relevant information and data in aid of policy information.
The hospital, to be built at the Coast Guard Base in Lower Bicutan, Taguig City, is in line with the policy of the government to adopt an integrated and comprehensive approach to health development.
“In order to adequately respond to emergencies, disaster, and emerging diseases, the state shall protect the interest and promote the well-being and the medical needs of the Coast Guard personnel, their dependents and retired uniformed personnel,” it added.
The hospital will be administered by a board of directors, with the PCG Commandant as chairperson. (PNA)
