DAVAO CITY -- City Council members here approved Thursday a measure granting PHP1-million financial assistance to flood victims in Ilocos Norte province.

Severe Tropical Storm Ineng left two persons dead and over PHP1.1 billion worth of damages in Ilocos Norte early this week.

Ineng's onslaught left residents of Laoag City, Bacarra, Pasuquin, Burgos, and Vintar suffering from one of the worst flooding in the province's history, officials said.

Most of the damage was recorded in infrastructure, particularly on unfinished construction of national roads and bridges -- including building, said Rodrigo Bustillo, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) Operations and Warning head.

Bustillo said the amount will be personally handed over by CDRRMO head Alfredo Baloran to the Ilocos Norte government on Friday (August 30).

"It is up to the province on how (it is) going to use the said amount," he added.

Bustillo said they also planned to give aid to those who were affected by Tropical Depression Jenny.

"It has been an advocacy of the City Government of Davao to help other places that were affected by disasters, he said. (PNA)
