SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- A bike ride around here by police personnel and other bikers associations will kick off the 25th National Crime Prevention Week observance.

Police Master Sergeant Linda A. Luzarita, chief of the Police-Community Relations (PCR) of SJDB Police Station, said they are kicking off their national observance this September 1 with the bike ride to make the public aware of the importance of helping in crime prevention.

“We have invited the Antique Mountain Bikers Association (AMBA) and other bikers associations in the municipality to participate in the bike ride,” she said in an interview on Friday.

She added that the activity will kick off around 5:30 a.m. from the police station with around 10 police personnel riding their bicycles.

Other activities will include poster-making contest among the elementary and high school students at the Antique National School Auditorium on September 4. The theme for this year’s observance is “Buhay Pahalagahan, Komunidad Magtulungan, Krimen Hadlangan”.

Meanwhile, town Mayor Elmer Untaran - in several important events here - has expressed that the municipal government is appreciative and supportive of the police's intensified campaign against illegal drugs. There are only 12 remaining affected barangays out of the total 28 sets to be cleared within the year.

“With the intensified campaign against illegal drugs, the municipality had zero crime rate during its major events like the Paskwa sa Banwa December 2018 and then during the Tiringbanay Festival last April 2019,” Untaran said. (PNA)
