CAMP GEN. VICENTE LIM, Calamba City – The leadership of the Police Regional Office-Calabarzon said on Thursday it is ready to heed the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to rearrest the 1,700 convicts who have released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law.

“The President has said his word and the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, (Gen. Oscar Albayalde) has spoken na sumurender na sila (that they have to surrender). We are just waiting for the order coming from the Chief PNP kung ano eksakto ang gagawin namin dito (what we would exactly do here). But we are ready,” PRO4 A regional director Brig. Gen. Edward E. Carranza told a media interview.

“PRO4a (Calabarzon) is ready. We have already issued the warning order to my Deputy Regional Director for Operations to come up with teams for each Provincial Police Office (PPO)... and we have tracker teams that will be running after them,” Carranza on the sidelines of 118th Police Service Anniversary celebration themed “Pinaghusay na Serbisyo, Alay Sa Sambayanang Pilipino” at the regional police command in this camp,

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa graced the event.

Carranza said they are validating reports of those who might have sought refuge in the region and those who already have died since their release from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City based on the GCTA computation.

He said their basis for the operation is “as if we’re running after wanted persons” and the tracker teams will take a cue on orders coming from the Albayalde.

He said the police regional command is sifting through the list of the 1,700 fugitives who have their last known addresses in the Southern Tagalog region.

Carranza said the apprehension of these fugitives may no longer require a warrant of arrest from the judge as the GCTA is already deemed void from the start.

“We’re just following instructions from the Chief Executive,” he said. (PNA)
